Applying SkillSelect 189 Visa is a grueling process and hence there is need to know the steps as the application process span multiple phases and involve multiple parties. I have grouped these steps under certain phases based on the time-line.

Main Applicant Documentation

BEFORE EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
  • Determine your ANZSCO Code: Choose your ANZSCO Code based on the skilled occupation that matches with your roles and responsibilities.
  • Perform Skill Assessment: Skill Assessment is done by respective authority based on your ANZSCO Code.
    • Educational Documentation : Collect all your qualifying degrees that you want assess. These include your transcripts with clear information about the courses you took along with your major [e.g: computer science] and study level [Undergraduate or Graduate].
    • Work Experience :
      • Work Experience letter from your employers on a letter head with roles and responsibilities.
      • Statutory Declaration with roles and responsibilities from your colleague [preferably in a supervisory level] that have supervised you during your stay in the company. This needs to be certified and notarized by a notary [Get this if you are unable to get a work experience letter from your current or previous employers.]
  • Claim English language proficiency points.
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
  • Submit EOI : Create an Immi account and submit your expression of Interest by selecting visa 189. You can also 190 subclass along with 189.
AFTER EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
  • Invitation to Apply : Once you get an ITA, you need apply the immigration visa within 60 days.
  • Notarized work experience and educational related documents.
    • Note: You need to submit the same documentation that you have submitted for Assessing Authority
  • Police Clearance Certification : You need to get police clearance from all the countries that you have stayed for more than 12 months in the past 10 years. You can get the list of office locations by country here.
  • Medical Report :
    • In the ImmiAccount, generate a HAP ID for you and your dependents separately and submit your details.
    • Separate referral letters will be generated for each of the applicant.
    • You need schedule an appointment with the approved physicians and submit the referral letter.
  • Passport: First and last page.
  • Marriage Certificate.
  • Birth Certificate.
  • Photographs.
  • Form 80 :
    • You need to fill the form 80 for each of the applicant.
    • You need to fill in all your educational achievements here. [Even if you haven’t submitted for the Assessment]
    • You need to fill in all your work experience details here. [Even if you haven’t submitted for the Assessment]
  • Form 1221:
    • You need to fill the Form 1221 for each of the applicant.
  • Other Documents : Good to have the following documents
    • Tax returns.
    • Salary slips.

Spouse Documentation

BEFORE EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
  • If claiming spouse points
    • Determine your ANZSCO Code: Choose your ANZSCO Code based on the skilled occupation that matches with your roles and responsibilities.
      • Note: Your ANZSCO code need be in the same Occupation List as your spouse.
    • Perform Skill Assessment: Skill Assessment is done by respective authority based on your ANZSCO Code. What is my Assessment Authority ?
      • Educational Documentation : Collect all your qualifying degrees that you want assess. These include your transcripts with clear information about the courses you took along with your major [e.g: computer science] and study level [Undergraduate or Graduate].
      • Work Experience :
        • Work Experience letter from your employers on a letter head with roles and responsibilities.
        • Statutory Declaration with roles and responsibilities from your colleague [preferably in a supervisory level] that have supervised you during your stay in the company.
